FAQ

SHIPPING & DELIVERIES

Where do you deliver?

We deliver all across South Africa, as well as to most international locations.

Please note that we can’t deliver to a Postal Box and thus a physical address is necessary for shipping within South Africa. Please provide detailed and correct contact information, Black Betty Design will not be held responsible for extra costs should a product be returned to us due to incorrect delivery information.

How much does it cost?

Shipping across South Africa is free if your order is over R1500, otherwise it is R120 for metros and R200 regionally.

Can I collect my jewels?

Our flag-ship store is based on 95 Regent Road, Sea Point, so if you’re based in the area please feel free to select ‘collection’ as your shipping option. We’ll let you know once your order has been completed and ready for you to collect.

Do you deliver internationally?

For all you international cats, we are set up with DHL & get fabulous rates. DHL will pump out a quote for you depending on your location.

Once your parcel has been dispatched, you will receive an email with your tracking number.

You may be liable for customs and import duties, quotas, permits, product restrictions and/or other local requirements. Customs policies vary widely from state to state and country to country, so be sure to investigate before placing an order, as we can’t be held liable for any extra charges. Please note: The buyer is responsible for any duties and/or customs fees that may be incurred by the country of destination.

How long until my jewels are delivered?

Purchases are only shipped once payment has been made in full. When your parcel is ready to be shipped, you will receive an email from the Black Betty team with your tracking number. Once you have received this mail, please allow 2 to 5 working days for shipping.

Although we endeavour to get your purchases shipped in the allocated time-frame, there are occasional exceptions. During sale periods and the holidays, we can experience higher than normal volumes of sales and as a local business with a small team, it is not always possible to guarantee the above time-frame. Please understand that delivery may take longer if this occurs.

What if my packages are lost or damaged?

Please, check the integrity of the package or envelope before signing to receive the order. We recommend to refuse the package if it has been opened, or has clear signs of having been opened and resealed. Note, the only authority allowed to open the package during the transit is local customs. All packages opened by local customs will be sealed with the corresponding stamp of the company.

If your items arrive damaged, please contact us. We'll work with you to come up with a solution on a case by case basis.

REPAIRS

What if one of my purchases gets damaged?

Whilst our Black Betty pieces are made to be functional, care must be taken when wearing them. Silver is a soft precious metal & needs to be worn with care. If a delicate silver treasure breaks within 3 months due to a manufacturing fault, we're happy to repair or exchange it for free. After 3 months, the cost of repair will depend on the nature of the repair needed.

If a solid gold delicate treasure breaks within 6 months of purchase due to a manufacturing fault, we’re happy to repair or exchange it for free. After 6 months, the cost for repair will depend on the nature of the repair needed.

*Please note that should you need something repaired and you are based outside of Cape Town or Johannesburg, you may be liable for courier costs. However if you are near any of our stores you can bring your piece in.

What if any jewels I get pierced with are damaged?

Your piercing jewellery is no different to any other jewels you may own - great care needs to be taken when handling & wearing it. We cannot be liable for lost or damaged body/piercing jewellery once you leave our piercing studio & we strongly recommend cleaning your jewels gently, not fiddling with it, being mindful when putting on & removing your face mask.

If your jewellery feels loose at any stage, please do not hesitate to contact us as soon as possible so we can rectify this for you.

What if my stones fall out?

Fine pave or flush set stones have been known to occasionally fall out. Within 3 months of purchase, Black Betty will replace these diamonds at no charge. After 3 months, the cost will depend on the size of the stone and story.

What if my chain breaks?

Unfortunately, Black Betty cannot take responsibility for broken chains. Chains, by nature, are extremely delicate and need to be handled with great care by the wearer.

What if my gold plating fades?

Gold Vermeil or plating is a term that describes Sterling Silver with a layer of gold on top (plated). To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10ct and 1.5micrometres thick. At Black Betty we plate our sterling silver with 2.5micron thick 22ct Gold.

Gold vermeil may slightly fade over time depending on wear and the amount of care taken. We offer a re-plating service; please email info@blackbettydesign.com for more details.

What if my beauties become tarnished?

Tarnishing is a natural process that can affect all precious metals to different extents. This can occur due to a variety of reasons, such as oxygen and moisture coming into contact with your precious jewels. If your once shiny and new BB beauty has discoloured, this is likely to be the reason why.

Fortunately, tarnished jewels are easily avoided with proper care but if your Black Betty jewels do become discoloured over time, we are happy to clean your pieces in-store for free. Get in touch to find out more.
