Black Betty's featured gemstone

Spinel really is a special gemstone to add to your collection, and can sometimes be overlooked when looking at all the other beautiful gems on offer. This stone has properties of great healing and promotes feelings of inspiration in the wearer. What this essentially means is that it seeks to repel the negative energies we absorb in everyday life, by helping to rid the wearer of resentment & residual anger. A big element of this is to replace these feelings with healthier and more effective ways of dealing with communication.

Spinel is a giving stone in that it emits an abundance of inspiration in the wearer to encourage feelings of empowerment and confidence in the face of life’s everyday challenges, which sometimes can feel overwhelming in their frequent occurrences.

“Just don’t give up trying to do what you really want to do. Where there is love and inspiration, I don’t think you can go wrong. ”

― Ella Fitzgerald

Spinel was originally intended to be used as a healing stone in the aid of releasing stress and replenishing the body through increasing endurance and persistence. So when you are feeling overwhelmed and in need of some gentle encouragement, wear your spinel piece to give you energy and inspiration for the day ahead. This will help you work towards any goals of success with humility, while still having the self-confidence to accept your successes and your self-worth. Here at Black Betty Design we place huge emphasis on self-love and self-care, and we hope that the gems you choose for yourself help you to achieve that sense of confidence and love within yourself.

Why should you wear Spinel?

If you have been feeling a lack of energy; if you have been feeling overwhelmed or overworked; if you are in need of inspiration and new confidence; if you need assistance with negative thoughts and negative energies around you- then this stone is for you!

Hot tip: pair a gem like the healing and inspirational Spinel with something like Rose Quartz to really encourage greater sentiments of confidence,  self love and to rid yourself of resentments & anger in order to allow yourself to receive love from others.

Remember- gems can be as powerful and meaningful as we allow them to be- so be conscious of what you choose to wear and how it can benefit your life.

BIRTHSTONES & THEIR ORIGINS
BIRTHSTONES & THEIR ORIGINS

Gemstones – we love them in our jewels and to wear them close. But natural gems are not just treasured for their beauty and are revered by many across the world for their healing abilities, too.

If you are a lover of gems, I’m sure you’ve heard the term ‘birthstone’ – which refers to a specific gem or crystal that is assigned to you according to which month you were born in. Being born at a certain time of the year affects our personalities - or character traits - due to planetary alignments. These traits are then assigned a particular gemstone in order to balance your sign’s characteristics in areas where your sign needs help, and also aids in highlighting those good traits. In this way, our assigned gemstones help bring out the best in us, whilst encouraging us to break away from the less-positive traits assigned to us by the planetary alignments.

Representations of Women and their jewellery in art

In the past, jewels were a way of symbolizing the position of a man in society, and to highlight their status by using their wives as a trophy, in a sense. Fast forward to the year 2020, women choose their jewellery based on whatever the heck they want to base it on - wear what you want to wear- and not just because some person wanted to paint a portrait of you to display their own wealth/ status/ ego ;)
