Our Makers of Magic

Jewellery making is a craftsmanship of art that has been around for thousands of years. Black Betty has been honing this craft since 2012, and today we proudly work with our 5 jewellers in our beautiful Hout Street Studio, making our own bit of magic everyday.

There's always a story behind our jewellery and the hands that make them with love and care.

Our team of local highly skilled artisans, the men behind the art of craftsmanship, our makers of magic; are committed to crafting with integrity and offer an even wider range of timeless and meaningful jewellery for our wearers to adorn.

Meet our Makers of magic ...

Riedewaan has been in the trade for 27 years, and his skill set lies in his perfectionist approach to jewellery making. His favourite part of jewellery making is the intricate process of seeing how a piece starts to how it finishes.

Garfield has also been in the trade for 27 years. He loves challenges and says that every jewellery piece presents a new & exciting challenge for him. He is an expert in handwork.

Mogamat has been in the trade for 36 years, and specialises in handmade jewellery. When we asked him what his favourite part of jewellery making is, he said it’s everything - from start to finish.

Maanie is our star apprentice, who has officially been in the trade for just over a year now! Maanie is still learning a bit of everything and loves getting to work with his hands every day.

Anwar specialises in stone setting for Black Betty. He’s been in the trade for 35 years, and says his favourite part of jewellery making is seeing the creations come to life, from design to having a happy client at the end of the process.

An ode to our jewellers and their craftsmanship. We would be nothing without their skill and dedication to creating distinctive & detailed jewellery.
