Getting Pierced at Black Betty

Black Betty's studios use the safest and cleanest, 100% nickel free metals for piercing. Choose from the highest implant grade titanium or either 14 or 18 karat gold. We use these metals due to their body bio-compatibility, meaning there is almost no chance of a reaction between your body and jewels.

We use a flat back labret for our piercings, instead of a butterfly. Labrets are the most suitable, hygienic and comfortable form of jewellery for a fresh piercing.

We only use needles to ensure the cleanest piercing, which are single use and disposed of with a medical waste company.

All gauze and cotton tops are prepackaged and sterilised to ensure a lesser chance of infection.

Tools are cleaned, packaged and autoclaved at 250 degrees to ensure sterility.

Our piercers are highly experienced. We take great care in securing the best and most professional individuals. When you book an appointment, you'll have ample time with our staff, with an optional consultation to discuss jewellery and piercing placements that will best suit your anatomy. We provide an depth aftercare service.

Good to Know

You must be over the age of 10 to get pierced. We enforce this age cut-off to ensure the child getting pierced is mature enough to understand the piercing and healing process.

Please note we do not allow more than one client into the piercing room at any one time. You are welcome to bring a friend, however they will not be able to come into the piercing room with you.

We can pierce a maximum of 3 piercings per session, however every body is different and our piercers will give you advice on what will be best for you during your consultation.

We will not pierce individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding as well as those who have recently undergone a surgical procedure.

For a cartilage piercing, you will need to downsize your labret as the swelling has decreased. This incurs a surcharge of R280. Learn more about our downsizing process here.

Aftercare

It's important that you keep your new piercing clean. We will provide you with saline solution to clean your piercing twice a day with clean hands and a cotton swab.

Be careful of any harsh solutions on your new piercing, such as alcohol or antiseptic. A good rule of thumb is if you wouldn't put it in your mouth, keep it away from your piercing.

Avoiding touching, fiddling or twisting your new piercing as this can increase the chance of a possible infection. Refrain from sleeping on your new piercings as this can aggravate it.
